Taking Stock, Briefly

Today marks the first day of my 3rd year with my current employer. When you consider that all my previous jobs lasted 13 months each, this has to be something of an achievement.

In slightly over five years of working life, I’ve had the concept of work explained to me in a few (very different) ways. These are the ones that have stuck with me:

  • Work is the thing you do that pays for the other things you like to do.
  • Because you spend at least a third of your life at work, you should find work that makes you happy.
  • Ecclesiastes 2:24-25 “A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God,¬† for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment?”

It’s not like me to get overly contemplative in a public forum – so I will leave it at this for now.
