Things I’ve Eaten: PappaMia’s Penang Char Kway Teow

Edited 10 November 2013:
Since this post is still coming up in Google searches, I sadly have to update it to reflect the new reality. PappaMia has a new chef and the char kway teow is now quite awful. The most recent iteration that I ate had more in common with mee goreng than any kind of char kway teow from any part of Singapore or Malaysia.

We interrupt the recent spate of Japan trip posts to bring you something closer to home…

I occasionally get search hits looking for 'Penang char kway teow' so here's a decent one I tried lately. PappaMia (429 River Valley Road, Singapore 248328) does a very decent version for $7.90. It was spicy and had decent wok hei - more importantly it passed the test of my mum-in-law, a Penangite!
