The New Place: Katy’s Room

This is the room I’m most pleased with right now. Not only is everything put away in its place, its main occupant just looks so cute and happy whenever she’s in it.

It’s kind of ridiculous how little she looks in her crib ever since we put in the extension panels. Ridiculous and adorable.

It was a little girl’s room before and it’s a littler girl’s room now, but looking at the old ‘before’ photos I can’t really believe it’s the same room.

Here’s the crib in a bit of context. The door immediately to its right leads to the master bedroom walk-in wardrobe and bathroom, and an identical door leads from that into the master bedroom. (To make this door work, we had its wall almost entirely rebuilt. Pity there isn’t a good before picture.) This makes is so much easier for me and James to pop in and out of her room for nighttime feeds. When Katy is older we’ll block up the sliding door with another ceiling-height cupboard like the one on the far right. And just beyond that cupboard, at a right angle, is the bedroom door.

The Sesame Street prints are from Art You Grew Up With. We picked them up at Harrods in London for about GBP10 each.

Here’s the view and the window treatments, and a bit of the wall facing the crib. We did actually get that wall painted the same colour as the green in the Roman blinds. I’m glad we picked the colours before we knew if Katy was going to be a boy or girl, because this green looks pretty good with nearly anything.

I had the changing table / dresser copied from a design I saw in a fancy baby-goods store. It came up to about a third of what it would have cost at that store.

The OSIM massage chair is comfy for when we’re giving Katy a bottle, and that bear playmat is supposed to go in the living room – but it’s camping here until we manage to teach the cats that it’s not theirs.

Before. See that weird recessed bit under the window? It continues all the way along the wall on the left. So we ran low cupboards all along those two walls. They’re shallow and we can’t get into them easily or often, but they’re great for storing things like hand-me-down clothes that Katy can’t fit into yet.

And together with another chunk of that green wall, here’s the single bed where James or I catch some Zs close by to Katy when she’s having a fussy night. We’re adding some fun jungle-themed decals to that wall once they arrive from¬†Blik¬†– more photos to follow then.

A lot of my stuffed animals didn’t survive the move – these are some that were gifted to Katy, a few souvenir bears I acquired while pregnant with her, and a couple of favourites from my Hello Kitty collection.

Here's what this corner looked like before. We evened out the height of the false ceiling and put in recessed lights.

I think I’ll post bathroom pictures next. Everything else still feels like a work in progress right now…

Love it! Yay green rooms! I really love the window treatments. I need to figure something like that out.

Love the blinds too! Makes me want to change mine for something a little less boring than cream, cream, cream…
