I was trying to capture an outfit shot of Katy when she noticed a leaf by her right foot. She stepped on it, dragged it underfoot up against the wall, and raised her foot till leaf met hand and she had it in her grasp.
And in this entirely unposed moment I saw a glimpse of a future not too far away; when my leggy toddler becomes a Big Girl, when the hours of ballet class manifest in unconscious grace, when she spreads her wings and begins flitting away from the home nest.
They told me parenting would break my heart daily.
They never told me these moments would be so beautiful and so bittersweet all at once.
